PHOTOS: West central Minnesota digs out as snow continues to fall throughout Wednesday

WILLMAR — With snowfall amounts ranging between 6 inches (Marshall, as of 7 a.m. Wednesday) and 13 inches (Ghent, as of 10 a.m. Wednesday), west central Minnesota residents woke up to a winter wonderland — and thus the work of digging out began.

Willmar saw nearly 10 inches of snowfall on Tuesday, and snow continued to fall throughout Wednesday, adding to that total.

Granite Falls spotters reported 7 inches of snowfall as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service , and spotters in Danube, Cedar Mills and Hutchinson reported totals of 8.5, 9.6 and 9 inches, respectively, by 7 a.m. Wednesday. St. Cloud spotters reported more than 10 inches of snow had fallen by 11 a.m. Wednesday as well, as the storm moved through the area.

The heaviest snowfall totals from this most recent storm were reported in eastern South Dakota, where the communities of Mitchell and Colton both recorded more than 20 inches of snow by 7 a.m. Wednesday.

From there, the storm moved northeast, traveling through southwest and west central Minnesota to the Twin Cities metro area — where spotters recorded totals ranging from 6 to 13 inches — before heading north toward Duluth and into Wisconsin.
